In their first solo exhibition, Een Stelling, Dora Brams (b. 2000, Antwerp) questions the role of the art object as a temporary placeholder. The point of departure is the gray area between the accessible and the inaccessible in official institutions. Government buildings such as the Royal Palace, the Palace of Justice, and the Palace of the Nation serve as spatial examples of this authoritarian contradiction. Brams uses temporary, functional objects (such as trestles, coat racks, and notice boards) which, in their reinforcing function, also obstruct. A central image of the exhibition are the endless hallways of the Palace of Justice, where one navigates past furniture that blocks off corridors and doors.

In hun eerste solotentoonstelling Een Stelling bevraagt Dora Brams (°2000, Antwerpen) de rol van het
kunstobject als tijdelijke plaatshouder. Het gepresenteerde object neemt een plaats in, en biedt zelf een
plaats voor presentatie. Het uitgangspunt is de grijze zone tussen toegankelijkheid en ontoegankelijkheid
in officiële instellingen. Overheidsgebouwen zoals het Koninklijk Paleis, het Justitiepaleis en het Paleis der
Natie zijn ruimtes waar zo’n autoritaire tegenstrijd plaatsvindt. Brams gebruikt tijdelijke, dragende objecten
(schragen, kapstokken, aankondigingsborden...) die zowel ondersteunen als verhinderen. Centraal staat
het beeld van de labyrintische gangen van het Justitiepaleis, waar talloze meubelstukken ingezet worden
om deuren te blokkeren en bezoekers om te leiden.

Dans son.a première exposition solo Een Stelling (Une position), Dora Brams (né.e en 2000 à Anvers)
interroge le rôle de l'objet d'art en tant que substitut provisoire. L'objet présenté occupe une place et
procure dans le même temps son propre espace de présentation. L’exposition s’attache ainsi à la zone
grise entre accessibilité et inaccessibilité au sein des institutions officielles ; une contradiction autoritaire qui
se manifeste dans des lieux tels que le Palais royal, le Palais de Justice ou le Palais de la Nation. Brams
mobilise des objets transitoires et porteurs (tréteaux, portemanteaux, panneaux d’affichage...) qui
soutiennent autant qu’ils entravent. Au cœur de l’exposition se déploie l’image des couloirs labyrinthiques
du Palais de Justice, où le mobilier se fait obstacle, condamnant les passages et déviant les parcours des
visiteurs.

In ihre.r ersten Einzelausstellung Een Stelling (Ein These) hinterfragt Dora Brams (°2000, Antwerpen) die
Rolle des Kunstobjekts als temporärer Platzhalter. Das präsentierte Objekt nimmt selbst einen Raum ein
und bietet zugleich einen Raum zur Präsentation. Ausgangspunkt ist die Grauzone zwischen
Zugänglichkeit und Unzugänglichkeit in offiziellen Institutionen. Regierungsgebäude wie der Königspalast,
das Justizpalais und das Palais der Nation sind Orte, an denen solche autoritären Widersprüche
stattfinden. Brams verwendet temporäre, tragende Objekte (Böcke, Garderoben, Ankündigungsplakate ...),
die sowohl stützen als auch behindern. Im Zentrum steht das Bild der labyrinthartigen Korridore des
Justizpalais, in denen unzählige Möbelstücke eingesetzt werden, um Türen zu blockieren und Besucher
umzuleiten.
